How to resolve the issue of drain flies gathering in your drain lines?
Sewer and drain flies feed off of and multiply when organic waste build-up is present within a drain line, sewer line, and/or house trap. To help prevent sewer and drain flies it is best to have the problemed drain line professionally cleaned and flushed, removing any accumulation of organic waste build-up from the line as well as from the inner walls of the pipeline.
After the drain line is properly cleaned then it is recommended to start a monthly drain maintenance treatment program using an environmentally safe bacteria/enzyme drain cleaner that biodegrades organic waste.
By doing this it will help keep your drain lines clean, free-flowing and will help prevent drain flies from gathering in your drain lines. Bio-Clean® The Natural Drain Cleaner is great for solving this issue.
Also, keep in mind that by having your drain line(s) professionally cleaned and then starting a monthly drain maintenance program is a great start in keeping your drain lines working at optimal performance and drain fly free. But, it’s also a team effort, it’s very important to be aware of what is being washed down your drain as well.
Garbage disposals in our opinion can be a problem for attracting drain flies and also resulting in frequent drain line stoppages as well. Food should not be washed down the kitchen sink or any other drain line for that matter.
The best practice is to keep a drain screen in your kitchen sink to catch any leftover food particles from going down the drain and throw them in the garbage pail or use it for compost in your garden. Grinding up food and letting it wash down your kitchen sink drain line doesn’t do your plumbing system any justice it will only cause a drain line stoppage at some point in the future.
